So Annoying
So I went to a comedy show tonight, with my boyfriend and a few friends. All the comedians were dudes, which I always find eyerolling, but expected. This time it was the 4 main guys from that new Sullivan and Son’s show. They were all decently funny except the headliner, Steve Byrne.
He was offensive without being funny. I love offensive humor. The dirtier the better. But when it’s just attack after attack toward a less privileged group, without any sort of self deprecating perspective from the comedian’s end, it comes off as down right mean and hateful.
Right off the bat, he throws out two fat girl jokes. Yup! Great opening dude. Make fun of fat girls because everything thinks they’re gross! Hilarious!
Then from there he goes on to describe how if a man is paying for a lady’s meal, depending on what he spends is how many sexual favors that woman OWES him. Oh yes! You sure are aware of your male privilege there ‘Nice Guy’(tm). Awesome.
And to top it all off, he invites a woman on stage to sit down for some supposed fun. It looked like it would just be some guys making asses of themselves infront of her, but it quickly turned into them touching her a lot and some of them being very very rude to her. Including Byrne turning her face away as he pretends to fuck her, and then one of the other comedians pressing her face to his belt buckle, and other creepy things. Gross.
Way to sour the end of decently funny night. If the majority of your set consists of woman hate, maybe you need to write some new, and hopefully funny, material.
